ISRO and the AMRUT mission:
ISRO conveys that Indian cities are experiencing rapid growth with the share of the country’s urban population increased from 27 per cent in 2001 to 32 per cent in 2011. The majority of this growth has taken place in an unplanned and haphazard manner, the ill effects of which are manifested in the form of poor quality of urban life.

Purpose of the course:
In order to ensure a planned development, the Govt. of India has launched the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Mission which has a sub-scheme on ‘Formulation of GIS-Based Master Plan for AMRUT cities.

IIRS along with the Town and Country Planning Organisation (TCPO), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), GoI has developed the contents of the course for capacity building of personnel involved in the subscheme.
